Wine Guide

Privacy policy

Last updated:

This policy explains how personal data is processed when you visit Wine Guide (this website), in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible

The controller responsible for this website is [name]. For any question about privacy, or to exercise your rights, email [email].

2. Summary

Visiting the site (hosting)

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. (USA). When you open a page, Vercel’s servers automatically process the technical data needed to deliver it: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system, and referring page. This data is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and detect abuse.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel keeps these logs only for a short period and we do not combine them with other data.

Audience statistics (Google Analytics 4)

Only if you click “Accept” in the cookie banner do we use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). It shows us which articles are read and how visitors find the site.

Google Analytics processes an online identifier stored in cookies, the pages you view, your approximate location (country or city, derived from the IP address, which is not stored), device and browser information, and the referring website.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the applicable rules on cookies). You can withdraw your consent at any time through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before it. Analytics data is kept for a maximum of 14 months.

When you click an affiliate link, you leave our site and go to the retailer’s site, usually through a tracking server of the Awin network (AWIN AG, Berlin, Germany). Awin and the retailer may then process data such as your IP address and a click identifier, and set cookies on their own domains, so that a purchase can be credited to our site. They do so as independent controllers under their own privacy policies. We only receive aggregated reports (for example, number of clicks and commissions) that do not identify you.

Contacting us by email

If you email us, we use your address and your message only to reply to you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, where relevant, steps prior to entering into a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). We delete messages once they are no longer needed, and at the latest two years after the conversation ends, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

Your choice in the cookie banner is saved in your browser’s local storage (key cookie-consent) and is never sent to us. It is strictly necessary to respect your decision.

4. Recipients and international transfers

Vercel (hosting) and Google (analytics, only with your consent) process data on our behalf as service providers and may process it in the United States. Both companies are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of protection. Their contracts also include the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the Commission.

5. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email [email]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live, work or where the alleged infringement took place.

6. Minors

This site is about alcoholic beverages and is intended for adults of legal drinking age. We do not knowingly process data from minors.

7. Automated decisions

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
